Meet the family behind Westonia Coffee

We’ve been having a ball working toward growing Westonia Coffee Company. From navigating social media to making deliveries to our fantastic customers to working in our inventory room (which smells amazing, by the way), we’ve been going non-stop. Last week, we had a customer ask us who we are and, like overly caffeinated zombies we responded, “We’re a small, specialty coffee company based in Richmond-” That’s when the customer politely interrupted with, “No, I mean YOU, the people. Tell me more about YOU.”

Blink. Oh. Right.

So we shared about ourselves and our lives outside of Westonia. Our customer was right (they always are, aren’t they?), there’s so much more to a small business than just...business. We thought we’d take a few minutes to introduce ourselves here, too. So, without further ado:

Jared and Julie
Jared and me celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary.

We are the Weston family. I'm Julie. I guess you could call me the office and social media manager. I'm a life-long coffee lover, daughter of a life-long coffee lover...I've really never known life without coffee. I have, however, known life without good coffee, which is what inspired me to start on this journey with my husband. I love family, books, health-and-wellness related stuff, and writing. And coffee.

Jared, my husband and founder of Westonia, is our resident coffee expert. He’s the one who understands ratios and can execute pour-overs and understands why coffee beans have to de-gas after roasting (I'm not kidding). His love of specialty coffee comes from a good friend in Texas, who years ago shipped Jared his first bag of Ethiopian. His life has never been the same. Jared loves family, food and technology. And coffee.

Then we have the (not so) wee Westons. Alex (14) is our video-gaming, history-loving son, who loves the smell of coffee but won't drink it unless it’s a cup of mostly flavored creamer. He has amazing hair and a quick wit. Basically he’s awesome. Yes, we’re biased.

Brynn (11) is our slime-creating, karate-loving daughter, who likes neither the smell nor taste of coffee. She is much shorter than, and equally as awesome as her big brother. Her favorite school subject is reading and did I mention she loves slime – and YouTube tutorials on slime? She’s making a batch right now.

Despite their shared apathy surrounding drinking coffee, both Alex and Brynn are excited to help out in the spring, when we hit the farmers’ market circuit.

Let’s see, what else? We live in and love the country, we love hiking and we have a flock of ten chickens.

So that’s it! Thanks for taking the time to read and get to know us a little better. If we can be of service to you in any way, or answer any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out at info@westoniacoffee.com.
